Sassafras Update

Official Sassafras update as of Wednesday, March 4, 2015
She has 4 new nodules in her spleen. Test results show they are likely sarcoma and with her history more than likely hemangiosarcoma. This is an aggressive and deadly cancer - we were lucky when we were able to remove her first hemangiosarcoma and the kidney it was attached to. Removing her spleen and trying a new chemo will not cure this disease and Sassafras is currently happy, eating well and living large! I'd hate to make her last months full of chemo appts and healing from another surgery. We've come a long way since her initial diagnosis in July 2014. We are entering this new journey with heavy hearts but the motto to‪#‎makeeverydaycount‬‪#‎teamsassafras‬

Fingers and paws crossed today....

This  morning Sass has an appointment with her favorite oncologist, Dr. O'Brien and we ask that you keep your fingers and paws crossed for some good or at least stable new. It's been about four weeks since spindle cells were found in Sassy's spleen. Today is her four week recheck to see if the spindle cells have grown and/or multiplied. The ultrasound will tell us if there are any new tumors and let us know about any changes to her spleen since her last appointment. Her spleen was mottled and irregular in shape at her last appointment. Sassafras has been full of energy and enjoying two full meals a day with no bribing involved. Her fur has all grown back in and it may be darker than it was, which makes her look even younger than before she started chemotherapy. Neighborhood walks or games of ball have been part of her daily activity and she runs around the house carrying one of her many babies giving you the eyeball that says please throw my baby, so I may catch her. We continue to work on her bark it list and check items off, making memories day by day. #makeeverydaycount
