I've not updated Sassy's blog in over 2 months - we had a new health dilemma pop up in our household. First, Sassy's update the new nodules in her spleen haven't had much growth and her new lab work from last Thursday shows that her red blood cell count is awesome and that her one kidney is working like a rockstar. We celebrate these small successes!! At the end of March over Spring Break we also checked off some additional Bark It List Items and I will update those in her next blog update.
On a sadder note, we had to say good bye to Indigo Wrigley on May 1. Beginning in March shortly after we learned Sass had new nodules in her spleen, Indigo started having seizures. They were awful to watch and I felt so helpless! During the first one, I thought she was dying as I had no experience with Grand Mal Seizures. In late April after having two seizures in less than 48 hours we started her on potassium bromide and with loading doses she loss use of her back legs. However, after the loading doses ended this didn't get better. We ultimately don't know if it was the seizures that injured her spine, did she have a brain tumor since she began getting seizures later in life, was it the long-term use of prednisone that caused her back legs to give out. Her front legs were not strong enough for a cart and how do you make a dog with seizures wear a cart? We knew it was time to say good-bye as she was frustrated and didn't understand why she couldn't get around on her own. We enjoyed every minute of her last 48 hours, dining out, ice cream treats, rolling her around in her wagon, drives in the county with her sissy and the sun roof open and we planted some mini blue flowers in her honor.
Sass is dealing with the loss just as we are, one day at a time. Sass seems to be adjusting to being the only dog but misses her sister! We knew Sass was on a limited schedule since her hemangiosarcoma diagnosis but we were not prepared to lose Indigo so abruptly. Our friends and family have been super supportive and we appreciate their compassion and understanding as we mourn the loss of our sweet girl!!!
